Board Meeting
The following report is a summary of the January 9, 2002 regular KGS Board meeting. The official minutes of all KGS Board meetings are available at the KGS Library. Ms. Radford reported that as of December 31, there were 348 Society members and 44 Library members who have paid their 2002 dues. The KGS Library showed a net gain (accrual) for the month of December as $20,844. Average billing for the month was $796/day with the monthly total billed of $15,919. Mr. Fisher reported on the finances. Net income from T-Bills for 2001 was $10,058.40. The Trust Company of Kansas actual account market value gain for 2001 was $3,206.27. The annual rate of return for 2001 was 1.62%. Total account balance, Treasury Bills and Trust Company of Kansas as of December 31, 2001 is $480,714.58. Society activities and events updated included the Technical Meeting with Dr. Roger Slatt " Applications of Outcrop Studies to Subsurface Reservoir Characterization" January 17, 2002 and the KGS Banquet January 25, 2002. Old business: Discussion and approval of the adjusted Kansas Geological Society 2002 Budget. The Board also discussed Ms. Fitzgerald's attendance at the AAPG 2002 convention and possible pricing of the Digital Library. New business: Discussion of candidates for submittal to the AAPG for the AAPG Delegate election. The new delegate will take office in July of 2002.

February 2002 Board Meeting The following report is a summary of the February 12, 2002 regular KGS Board meeting. The official minutes of all KGS Board meetings are available at the KGS Library. Ms. Radford reported that as of January 31, there were 427 Society members and 143 Library members who have paid their 2002 dues. The KGS Library showed a net gain (accrual) for the month of January as $133.00. Average billing for the month was $419/day with the monthly total billed of $9,228. The Board approved a motion to give the Library staff a 3% cost of living raise. Mr. Fisher reported on the finances. The Trust Company of Kansas actual account market value gain for 2002 is $219.42. The annual rate of return as of January 31, 2002was .001%. Total account balance, Treasury Bills and Trust Company of Kansas as of January 31, 2002 is $480,934.00. Technical Meetings scheduled for February include: Brian Cardott, Oklahoma Geological Survey "Coal bed Methane in Oklahoma" February 15, 2002. Dr Jan Cannon, Tecumseh, Oklahoma "Meteorite Craters" February 21, 2002. Dr David Hughes, WSU "Of EPA, ARPA, NAGPRA & etc." February 28, 2002. Old business: Submittal of Larry Richardson's name to the AAPG for the Delegate election. The Kansas Geological Society and the Kansas Geological Foundation have agreed to split the cost of the booth showcasing the Digital Library at the March AAPG meeting in Houston, Texas. The KGS Board was updated on the progress of the Digital Library. New business: The regular March Board meeting was re-scheduled to Friday March 8, 2002.

March 2002 Board Meeting The following report is a summary of the March 8, 2002 regular KGS Board meeting. The official minutes of all KGS Board meetings are available at the KGS Library. Ms. Radford reported that as of February 28, there were 509 Society members and 157 Library members who have paid their 2002 dues. The KGS Library showed a net loss (accrual) for the month of February as $-3,429.49. Average billing for the month was $540/day with the monthly total billed of $10,799. Ms Radford noted the income from the Kansas Geological Society banquet was posted in January, and the expenses of $3,827.60, were posted in February. Donations were approximately $1,200 short of the cost of the banquet. Mr. Fisher reported on the finances. The Trust Company of Kansas actual account market value gain for 2002 is $524.25. The annual rate of return as of February 28, 2002 is .0028%. Total account balance, Treasury Bills and Trust Company of Kansas as of February 28, 2002 is $481,278.83. Technical Meetings scheduled for March include: Linas Kilda, Chief Geologist, AB Geonafta, "Petroleum Geology and Production in Lithuania" March 4, 2002. Dr Lyle Baie, Dr Ken Wantland, Dr. Jack Gallagher, Tulsa "21st Century Work Environment - Will I have a Role" March 7, 2002. SIPES Open Meeting, Robert Martin, Attorney "Rights of Geologists, Engineers etc. Under the Law" March 20, 2002. Dr. Doren Recker, Stillwater "Evolution & Creationism" March 21, 2002. Dr. Deet Schumacher, Tulsa "New Pays in Old Plays" March 28, 2002. Old business: The Board was updated on the status of the KGS Website and discussed possible pricing scenarios for the Digital Library. New business: The Board approved two applications for supporting membership status, and approved AAPG convention expenses for Ms. Fitzgerald.
