American Warrior Completes Two Barber Wildcats
1,2  (IOG RedTop, April 29, 2002) - American Warrior, of Garden City (KS), has successfully completed two wildcat wells in the western portion of Barber County, near the town of Sun City, or about 15 miles northwest of Medicine Lodge, Kansas. The two wells were drilled in March to an estimated 5,600 feet. The wells are on pump producing oil from undisclosed formation and depth. Though both wells were drilled on Bear Creek leases, they are over two miles apart, and over 1-1/4 miles from closest oil production.

The #2 Bear Creek was the first well drilled at site located in approximately SE SE SE of section 23-T31S-R15W. The new pool opener lies over a mile southwest of closest producer, a gas well drilled in the E/2 of section 24 in 1978 by Texas Oil & Gas Corp., in the multipay Skinner field. The #1 Hull ‘C’  was completed for 1.2 million cubic feet of gas daily from Mississippian pay zone at a depth from 4,625 to 4,635 feet.

The #1 Bear Creek is producing at site located in approximately SE NW SW of section 12-T31S-R15W. The well lies  over 1-1/4 miles west of known Arbuckle oil production in the Skinner field, as well as Viola gas production. A cluster of oil wells in the SE/4 of section 7 produced oil from 4529 to 4561 feet in Arbuckle. Several dry holes separate American Warrior’s new discoveries from infield wells. The two new oil fields have not been named.

Raydon Exploration Completes Wildcat Well
3  (IOG RedTop, May 6 & 13, 2002) - A new unnamed Mississippian gas field has been established in southern Meade County, about 1-1/4 miles north of the Oklahoma border, by Raydon Exploration of Oklahoma City. Operator has completed their #1-12 Ross, C SE NW in section 12-T35S-R28W, with a one point Open Flow gauge of 1,356 Mcf daily through a 1-1/4 inch orifice. Casing pressure was measured at 1,270 psi and flowing tubing pressure was 1,240 psi. Test was conducted in the morning hours of April 5, 2002.

Pay comes from perforations shot in the Mississippian Chester formation from a depth of 6,182 to 6,202 feet. The wildcat pool opener was drilled to a total depth of 6550 feet last November by Big A Drilling tools. Well site lies about 18 miles south of the town of Meade, Kansas.

The new gas production is situated over 1-1/4 miles southeast of closest producing wells in the area. In section 2-T35S-R28W, the one-well Meierdierks Southeast field has produced natural gas from the shallower Council Grove formation since June, 1978. Council Grove gas is also produced in the Meyers field in section 8-T35S-R27W, about the same distance to the east of Raydon’s #1-12 Ross well. Nearest deep pay, also Mississippian, is located nearly three miles away in the Johan field in section 32-T34W-27W. The #1-A Thornhoff, S/2 SE, produced almost 200 million cubic feet of gas from the years 1975 to 1992. Gas flowed from the Chester at a depth between 6,120 to 6,129 feet. Top of the Chester was encountered at 6048 feet. The well has since been converted to a salt water disposal well in the Morrow.

Hess Oil Establishes New Field in Ness County
4  (IOG RedTop, May 13, 2002) - Hess Oil Company, McPherson (KS), has established a new unnamed oil field in northern Ness County, about one mile south of the Trego County line. The #1 Ruby, located in approximately C N/2 NE of section 7-T16S-R22W, was put on pump earlier this month and completed as a commercial well with production volume and pay not disclosed.  Mallard JV rotary rig was used to drill the well to a total depth of 4,470 feet in March. Five and one-half inch long string casing was landed at 4,462 feet.

The #1 Ruby was drilled at a site located three-eights of a mile east of the #1 Kisslinger ‘A’, a well that was bottomed at 4,450 feet in mid 1990. Top of the Mississippian was penetrated at 4,400 (-1953 KB). The well recovered 10 feet of mud with slight shows of oil in the Mississippian from 4,410 (-1963) to 4,420 (-1973) feet, as well as 480 feet of salt water from 4,410 to 4,420 feet.

About 10 feet south and 615 feet east of discovery site, Hess Oil has just washed down their #2 Ruby (formerly #1-7 Squire) in an attempt to make it a salt water disposal well.  The well was originally drilled to 4,450 feet in 1994, and topped the Mississippian at 4,382 (-1966 KB). Good shows of oil and gas were recovered in the Cherokee ‘A’ Sand from 4,258 to 4,305 feet, however, shut-in pressures were low at 468 to 260 psi. Shows of oil were also noted in a Conglomerate section from 4,318 to 4,378 feet, but the zone appeared tight. Field area lies 2-1/2 miles north and 2-3/4 miles west of Brownell, Kansas.

Northern Lights Oil Completes Wildcat Well
5  (IOG RedTop May 27, 2002) - Northern Lights Oil Co., Inc., of Andover (KS), has discovered new Cherokee Sand oil reserves at their #1-4 Wells, spotted 100 feet from south line and 1,440 feet from west line in section 4-T18S-R24W, in Ness County. The wildcat well is presently on pump for an undisclosed production volume. Pay depth is around 4,300 feet. The new unnamed field lies 3-1/4 miles north and 3-3/4 miles west of the town of Ness City.

Operator drilled the Wells test to a total depth of 4,450 feet last April, using the rotary drilling tools of Mallard JV. Well site is located about 3/4-mile southwest of a small Mississippian producer that established the one-well Forrester Field in the east-half of section 4 in 1991. The well only gave up 515 barrels of oil in its short life. Closest recognized Cherokee production is located in the Tombstone Gap Field, established by independent oilman Carmen Schmitt in Year 2000 in the NW/4 of section 4. The one-well pool has given up over 68,000 barrels of oil from the Cherokee. No pay depth has been released to date.

Northern Lights new discovery also lies less than 1/4-mile northeast of a dry hole, #1 Legg, NW NW in section 9, that was drilled in 1983. The well tested slight shows of oil in Cherokee from 4,280 to 4,339 feet during drill stem test. A Pennsylvanian Basal Sand zone was called at 4,329 feet  (-4,332 KB). Approximately 1/4-mile to the northwest of the #1-4 Wells, another dry hole, #1 Jones Estate, NW SW in section 4, also recovered slight oil showings in Cherokee. Oil was noted from 4,302 to 4,332 feet when the well was drilled in 1992. The top of the Cherokee Sand was logged at 4,324 feet (-2001 KB).

Globe Operating Finals Rush Wildcat
6  (IOG RedTop June 3, 2002) - Independent operator Globe Operating, Inc., of Great Bend (KS), has successfully completed an isolated wildcat well in Rush County, Central Kansas. The #1 Alex, located 2,150 feet from the south line and 1,950 feet from the west line, or approximately SE NE, in section 11-T18S-R18W, is on pump making an undisclosed amount of oil from the Arbuckle formation. The well was drilled to a rotary total depth of 3,864 feet on March 5th by Discovery Drilling tools. Drill site lies slightly over one-half mile northeast of producing wells in the Rush Center Northeast field where the Conglomerate and Arbuckle zones are the only productive horizons in the 48 year old oil field.

The Alex lease is separated from existing infield production in the Rush Center Northeast field by several dry holes that were drilled in the 1950’s and 1980’s. Site is located about 420 feet east of the #1 Herrman well, a test drilled in 1991 to a depth of 3,875 feet. The condemned dry hole encountered the top of the Arbuckle at 3,875 feet (-1790 KB). Oil shows were noted in drill stem tests taken over an interval between 3,821 to 3,874 feet. Salt water shows appeared below 3,874 feet. Field area is located 2 miles north and 1 mile east of Rush Center, Kansas.

Dominion Oklahoma Texas Exploration & Production Has Discovery
7  (IOG RedTop June 3, 2002) - Dominion Oklahoma Texas Exploration & Production, of Oklahoma City, Okla., has started a new Morrow play in Morton County, southwest Kansas. The firm has discovered new oil deposits at their #1-5 Blout, spotted in approximately C N/2 S/2 S/2 in section 5-T33S-R42W. The 5,100 foot deep well is on pump making an unknown amount of crude. Dominion Oklahoma Texas has since run casing and is currently evaluating two offset locations, also drilled in section 5 in recent weeks.

The #2-5 Blout was drilled 5/8-mile northeast of the pool opener and the #1-5 Williams Trust lies 3/8-mile to the north. Two other locations have been staked nearby. The #4-5 Blout is located in the NE SW of section 5, and the #1-8 Blout is located in NW NW NW of section 8. Both are planned 5,200 foot upper Morrow tests. OXY USA has joined the hunt with several offsetting locations announced of their own. The new field has not been named. It lies about 7-1/2 miles southwest of Richfield, Kansas.

L. D. Drilling Opens New Oil Field
8    (IOG RedTop July 1, 2002) - Independent producer L. D. Drilling of Great Bend (KS) has opened a new unnamed oil field in northwestern Lane County, near the Gove County line. New discovery was made at the #1 York, located in approximately C N/2 SW NW in section 2-T16S-R30W, about 6 miles north of the town of Healy. The well was placed on production in mid May for an undisclosed rate. Production formation is also being held confidential at this time. Company tools drilled the well to a 4,370 foot total depth.

The new pool opener offsets two dry holes that were drilled less than one-quarter mile to the south. One of the tests, #1 York, approximately NE SW NW, was drilled in 1957. It encountered good shows of oil and gas in the Pawnee and Fort Scott zones from 4,076 to 4,350 feet, and Myrick Station from 4,177 to 4,202 feet. Lesser shows of oil were also noted in the Lansing-Kansas City from 3,796 to 3,814 feet and 3,873 to 3,920 feet. Closest infield production lies 3/4-mile to the east in the LaYork Field where Marmaton oil is being produced.
