Independent Oil and Gas Service

(5) Murfin Drilling Co. Finals Discovery (IOG Weekly 10/07/02)

Wichita-based Murfin Drilling Company is producing 50+ barrels of oil per day at their #4-25 Rusco-Davis, spotted in approximately S/2 S/2 NW of section 25-T11S-R20W in northwestern Ellis County. The wildcat well establishes the new R-D oil field at site located about 4-1/4 miles north and 5-1/2 miles west of Hyacinth, Kansas. The 3810 foot deep well found crude deposits on an isolated Arbuckle feature that was suspected through the use of  3-D seismic data interpretation and geology.  Arbuckle perforations have not been disclosed. This is one of several new recent oil strikes that Murfin has made in the immediate area based on seismic work.

6)  Anadarko Petroleum Corp. Has Gas Discovery (IOG Weekly `10/07 02)

Anadarko Petroleum Corp. of Amarillo (TX) has established a new unnamed gas field in Stevens County, southwest Kansas.  The #1 HJV Schmidt ‘A’, located 150 feet south of C SE NE SW in section 26-T31S-R39W, is flowing an undisclosed amount of natural gas from perforations in the Morrow Sand formation. Murfin Drilling tools were contracted to drill the well to a total depth of 6200 feet last July.  The well was put on production on August 14, 2002. The new field is situated 1-1/4 miles north of Anadarko’s 2 Hittle ‘A’, SW SW in section 35, which opened the Younggren Northwest field in 1990. The Hittle well flowed one million cu. ft. of gas daily from lower Morrow formation at a depth of 5770 to 5804 feet. About the same distance to the west of Anadarko’s new strike, the Denious field also has produced gas from the Morrow since 1991.  Field area lies about 9-1/4 miles north and 9-1/2 miles west of the city of Hugoton.

7)  McCoy Petroleum Corp. Completes Wildcat Well (IOG Weekly 10/07/02)

McCoy Petroleum Corp. of Wichita (KS) has successfully completed a Ness County wildcat well as a Mississippian oil  producer to open a new oil field 11 miles south of Laird,  Kansas. The #1-27 Fehrenbach ‘A’, SW NE SE in section 27-T20S-R25W, was put on pump at an  undisclosed production rate on July 2, 2002. The well was drilled to a total depth of 4480 feet with Sterling Drilling rig.  Well site is located three-quarter mile north, but separated from, established oil wells in the Almquist field where the Mississippian formation has given up crude since 1978.
