My family took a little vacation in August. As we drove south, through Oklahoma and then Texas, I noticed three rigs up and drilling. The boom is on! When I got back to Wichita, I worked KIOGA in the Robert Walters Digital Library booth for an afternoon and it did feel like the boom was on. The Society jointly shared an exhibit booth with the Foundation and the response was exciting. Tyler Sanders had the computers up and available and the attendees were able sit down and go for a test drive. If you haven’t seen a demo of the online library, come by the KGS and look up Tyler Sanders. The Annual KGS picnic with its new location seemed to be a great success. I heard only two complaints about the change, but the praises outnumbered those 50 to 1. Thank Cory Baker and his co-chair Brian Wilhite when you see them. At the August Board of Directors meeting, our guest was our accountant, Joe Walsh of Nord and Walsh. His report was very gratifying. He pointed out that last year we employed two people, and this year we have four full-times and one part-time, including a Business Manager. He reported this will be the first year since he has done the auditing (ten years plus), the Society will make money. Through July, the net profit is approximately $30,000. Robert Cowdery will be back in town this month and our Technical Talks will resume. The September talks are listed elsewhere in the bulletin. The licensed geologists with the last name initials of A-L will now need to build credit hours to maintain their licensed status. Each technical talk attended will count as one credit hour. Good Luck on your prospects! Debra FitzGerald
