KGF TAPE REVIEWS
IDEAL GEOLOGICAL VACATION

For those geologists who would like to take their families on a real geological vacation next summer, they should consider the area known as the “Grand Circle” which covers portions of Colorado, Arizona and in particular Utah.  The Kansas Geological Foundation has acquired four tapes for its library, which describe the multitude of geological attractions encompassed by this area.  These may be checked out during the fall and winter in order to make plans for a great geological adventure.

Grand Circle
60 minutes
Finley-Holiday Films

This is primarily a travelogue type of tape with not a lot of geological substance, but it does give an overview of the area.

The Highway 12 Experience
30 minutes
Finley-Holiday Films

This tape covers a specific portion of the “Grand Circle” including two National Parks and three State Parks.  Included is the controversial Escalante  area.

Bryce Canyon
32 minutes
Readers Digest

This tape explores one of the outstanding geological attractions of this country.

The 250 Million Year Story of Capitol Reef Story
28 minutes
Brigham Young University

This is really and outstanding tape.  The description tells it all. “Capitol Reef is tracked as it progresses through 275 million years of plate tectonic movement that influenced the climate and geography in western North America and created the spectacular formations and topographic features that grace its present landscape”
