EXPLORATION HIGHLIGHTS
By John H. Morrison, III
Independent Oil and Gas Service

1) Raydon Exploration Completes New Discovery
Raydon Exploration, Oklahoma City (OK), has discovered new Mississippian (Chester Sand) gas deposits in Clark County, southwest Kansas. Their #1-5 Juanita, located in approximately NW SE SW in section 5-T33S-R25W, is producing an undisclosed amount of gas from an upper sand section at an unknown depth. The new unnamed pool opener lies about 1-1/4 miles due west of Midco Exploration’ s #2-4 Proffitt, SE/4 of section 4, which was completed with similar pay in August 1995. The Proffitt well has produced over 21 million cubic feet of gas from Mississippian Chester Sand at a depth  from 5,401 to 5,407 feet. Top of the Chester Sand was encountered at 5,396 (-3263).  The well established the Cash City Northeast field. Marmaton and Viola oil is being produced in the Cash City field, located 1-1/4 miles to the west of Raydon’s latest find. Field area is situated 10-1/4 miles north and 3-1/2 miles west of Englewood, Kansas.

2) Mid-Continent Energy Operating Has Discovery
Mid-Continent Energy Operating Company, Wichita (KS), has established new Cherokee Sand oil production at a wildcat site in western Rush County, central Kansas. The #1 Sloan, C S/2 SW NW SE in section 30-T17S-R20W, was drilled to a total depth of 4,234 feet in February this year by Duke Drilling tools and completed last month. The well is producing crude at an undisclosed rate. Exact pay depth is unknown. The new oil field remains unnamed at this time.  Discovery site is located about 2-1/2 miles south of McCracken, Kansas and  is slightly over one-half mile east of the Ness County line. The Sloan well lies three-quarters mile south of nearby oil production in the McCracken field. The closest well, #1 Latimer ‘B’, SE/4 in section 19, produced oil from Cherokee Sand at 4,091 to 4,106 feet. The well topped the Cherokee Sand at 4,089 feet (-1896) in 1979.

3) Pelican Hill Oil & Gas Has Marmaton Discovery

Pelican Hill Oil & Gas of San Clemente (Calif) has discovered new Marmaton oil deposits at a wildcat well in Ness County, west Central Kansas. The #1-35 Young, spotted in approximately NW SW SW 18 to 4,378 feet, but the zone appeared tight. Field area lies 2-1/2 miles north and 2-3/4 miles west of Brownell, Kansas in section 35-T17S-R24W, a site selected on the basis of seismic data, is producing an undisclosed amount of crude from perforations in the Fort Scott limestone formation. The new unnamed pool lies slightly over 3/4-mile west of Cherokee oil wells in the western side of the Miner field and is nearly a mile from closest known Marmaton production in the field. Discovery Drilling tools drilled the well to about 4,500 feet. The new field is located 4-1/2 miles north and 1-3/4 miles west of Ness City. Kansas.

4) Murfin Drilling Company Completes New Discovery
Murfin Drilling Company, Wichita (KS), has discovered new Morrow Sand oil deposits at a wildcat venture in Finney County, southwest Kansas.  New reserves were found at the #1-12 Tankersley, spotted in approximately C W/2 W/2 in section 12-T22S-R34W, about 8-1/2 miles southwest of the town of Friend, Kansas. The well was put on pump on July 16, 2002 at an undisclosed production rate. Company drilling tools cut the well to a total depth of 4,855 feet.  The new find is located 1-1/2 miles west of the closest Morrow producer in the multipay Damme field. The #1 Harold Stevenson, NE/4 of section 7-T22S-R33W, produced crude from around 4,720 (-1820 KB) feet in depth in 1972.  Murfin’s latest field discovery has not been named.
