KGS
Members,
As President for the year 2003 I am pleased to announce three new members
to the Board. Tom Hansen joins the Board as President –Elect, Ernie
Morrison will take over duties as Secretary as Mikeal Maune moves on to
Treasurer, Gus Messinger will fulfill duties as director. In addition
Gary Gensch and Craig Caulk will be sitting in on Board meetings as advisors.
I am looking forward to working with these fine gentlemen this year and
hope that if you as members have wants or needs you will inform one of
the above mentioned as well as myself because we are here to make the Society
and Library work for you. We will be losing Scott Mueller as a board member
as he has taken employment with an exploration company in Oklahoma.
I appreciate his input on the board last year and wish him the very best
in his new position.
I am excited about the New Year much the same way I become excited about
drilling a new well. There is much anticipation about what will happen
in the next 12 months and I am sure it will not turn out exactly as I have
envisioned it at the start. Oil and gas prices ended 2002 on a high note,
I hope to see that trend continue into 2003. The KGS Library operated
in the black last year and my hope is that it will continue to do so, if
prices stay strong we may get a good start on the year with members purchasing
information for their prospects. We as a Board are going to face
new challenges this year with the Walters Digital Library scheduled to
go online. The KGS will be managing this service and while we have
tried to anticipate all that this will involve, I am sure there will be
some situations we will just have to react to.
There will be the usual slate of KGS sponsored events beginning with the
annual banquet January 24th , the fishing tournament is usually in May,
golf tournament in June, picnic in August , and the shooting tournament
in October. I hope you will support these events with your
participation. Many of us will have to have accumulated 30 hours
of CEU's to renew state certification by June 30. There will be opportunities
to obtain these credits through the Technical talks scheduled this year.
You should take advantage of these to earn your credits and learn about
something you may not be familiar with. The AAPG convention will
be in Salt Lake City in May and KIOGA will be later in the summer.
As you can see there are a lot of things to mark on your calendars for
2003, I hope to see as many of you as possible at these events, and in
the meantime, find some oil and gas!
Best Regards,
Timothy G. Pierce
