Rosewood Resources, Inc., of Dallas (TX), has completed its #1-4 Stasser with commercial natural gas production from Niobrara Chalk formation in Sherman County, northwest Kansas. The wildcat well, located in approximately N/2 NW SW in section 4-T7S-R39W, is producing gas at an undisclosed volume at site located over 4-1/2 miles north of similar pay in the Goodland Niobrara Gas Area. The 1400 ft. deep well was drilled in May and completed in July 2002. Rosewood has successfully offset their new discovery well to the north. The #1-4 Homestead, located nearly NW SE NW of section 4, was drilled to a total depth of 1252 ft. in July and was completed on September 11, 2002. No other details are available. The wells are currently waiting on pipeline connection. The new unnamed gas field lies about 7-3/4 miles north of Goodland, Kansas. 6) McCoy Petroleum Corp. Finals Wildcat Producer (IOG Weekly News 9/23/02) McCoy Petroleum Corp., Wichita (KS), has discovered Mississippian gas reserves at a wildcat “show hole” in Eastern Ford county, near the Edwards county line. The natural gas strike was made at a successful re-entry and completion of the #1-24 Herman Trust, spotted in C NE NW in section 24-T26S-R21W. The well had been deemed as non-commercial and was plugged and abandoned in 1983. McCoy washed down the old well in May this year to a total depth of 4832 feet. Sterling Drilling tools was contracted to deepen the well to 4870 feet, whereby 4-1/2 inch casing was set two feet off bottom. The well started producing an undisclosed amount of gas from perforations shot in the Mississippian formation effective August 26, 2002. McCoy’s new unnamed gas field is positioned about 1-1/2 miles due west of Mississippian oil and gas production in the Martin North field in Edwards county. Last year McCoy drilled and completed two oil and gas producers on the Marcy ‘A’ lease in the southeast quarter of section 19-T26S-R20W. The two wells have together produced over 19,000 barrels of oil and in excess of 11.8 million cubic feet of natural gas from undisclosed depth. McCoy’s latest strike is located 7-1/2 miles south of Offerle, Kansas. 7) Knighton Oil Company Reports Discovery (IOG Weekly News 12/16/02 Independent producer Knighton Oil Company, of Wichita (KS), reports the discovery of new Mississippian oil and gas reserves at its #1 Rosproy, located in C S/2 N/2 SE NE in section 30-T25s-R18W, in Edwards County, south central Kansas. The wildcat well was completed as a commercial well with undisclosed potential on October 15, 2002. Well site is located about 1-1/4 miles northeast of established production in the CLW Field, which produces oil from the Lansing-Kansas City formation and natural gas from the Mississippian zone. A “show hole”, #1 Romersi, spotted about one-quarter mile to the south in the same section, was drilled and abandoned in 1978. However, the well did reveal gas shows in the Mississippian from 4610 to 4668 ft. (-2417 to -2475 KB) and oil shows from 4663 to 4686 ft. (-2470 to -2493 KB). Knighton Oil drilled their Rosproy well to a total depth of 4695 ft. Hole is plugged-back to a depth of 4657 ft. The new unnamed field is situated 4 miles south and 3-1/2 miles east of Kinsley, Kansas. 8) F. G. Holl Company Expands Mundhenke Field (IOG Weekly News 12/16/02) F. G. Holl Company, LLC, Wichita (KS), has successfully expanded the recognized boundaries of the Mundhenke Field In Edwards County, south central Kansas, as well as having discovered new pay source in the field. The #1-33 Bowman, the firms fifth producer in the field since they discovered it in 1978, has been completed as flowing 2,210 Mcf gas daily from the Cottonwood limestone member, part of the Wabaunsee group. The field had previously produced oil and gas from the Cherokee and Mississippian zones and is located about 8-1/2 miles east of Kinsley town site. Holl’s #1-33 Bowman was drilled as a 3/4-mile northeasterly stepout of the field at site located in approximately NW NW SW in section 33-T24s-R17W. Duke Drilling tools were used to drill the well to a total depth of 4636 ft. by loggers depth. Geologist Bill G. Ree called the log top of the Cottonwood at 2761 (-619 KB). Production comes naturally from perforations shot at four holes per foot from 2778 to 2790 ft. First gas sales commenced onDecember 10, 2002. The Mundhenke field has produced over 2.5 billion cubic feet of gas and 26,000 barrels of oil since its establishment. |
