Dear Members,
Well spring is definitely here and everyone seems to be very busy either
with well work or yard work or both! There also seems to be the usual
rise in golf games that this time of year brings.
The library business has picked up this spring and we hope it continues
to be busy for us. We have started to expand our files, moving into
29 new file cabinets that have been added to the east end of the library.
In the next few weeks, you might have to “keep looking” for the cabinet
that has the township you are looking for but it will be much nicer to
look through the files when this task is completed. This is making
room for new logs that have come in this year as well as the integration
of the small scale files. We have had a wonderful volunteer workforce
handling this project. Ted Jochems, Sal & Chellie Mazzullo, Marj
Crane, Bob Wasson, Kimberly Dimmick-Wells and Paul Ramondetta. I
want to thank them for their dedication to this library. These are
people that are always there to say “I’ll help with that” and they always
deliver on that promise! THANKS!
We have a few events coming up in the next few weeks. First we have
the Fishing Tournament which will be held on Friday, May 23rd. See
more info on this on page 9. Then we have the KGS Golf Tournament on June
16th. This year the golf tournament will start later in the day to
make it easier for more out-of-town people to attend. See more info
on this event also on page 9. I hope you can support
these events either by participating or providing sponsorship or just “talking
it up” to those who might be interested. These are both fun events
and we like to see as many as possible join in on that fun!
Also, May 21st, a Wednesday night, the Foundation will be having their
annual Spring Mixer. See the enclosed flyer insert for more information.
Please check out the Technical Talk schedule on page 5. Included
in the schedule on May 22 is a panel discussion on ethics that will be
co-hosted by KGS & SIPES. This should prove to be an interesting
discussion and a little out of the ordinary for our talks in that we want
a lot of involvement from the audience. See page 28 for some
sample questions that you might want to duplicate for that panel.
Also on May 8th, our own Brian Fisher will be giving a talk on the groundwater
contamination cleanup project that he has been involved with for the City
of Wichita. I am sorry that I will miss Brian’s talk as I will be
out of town for my daughter’s wedding that week. I am looking
forward to my life settling down after this wedding is over! I apologize
now for any “scatter-brainedness” you have experienced from the mother
of the bride! I will return to normal, I promise!
Respectfully submitted,
Rebecca Radford
