(IOGsi Weekly News 03-17-2003) - New Arbuckle oil reserves have been discovered at a wildcat site in southwestern Rooks County by Wichita-based Murfin Drilling Company. The #1-28 Irene Z, spotted in approximately NW SE SE in section 28-T10S-R19W, was put on pump on February 4, 2003 for an undisclosed production rate.

The new field has been named Armbrister East.  The wildcat well was drilled to a total depth of 3820 ft., nearly 3/4-mile east of known Lansing-Kansas City (LKC) oil production in the Armbrister oil field in the SW/4 of the section. Most nearby production comes from the Shawnee and LKC zones. Arbuckle production lies several miles away from Murfin’s new strike. The Irene lease is situated 5-1/4 miles south of Zurich, Kansas.

(IOGsi Weekly News 04/07/2003) - In a remote area located about 5-1/2 miles south of the city of Wallace, in Wallace County, Hughes Petro, LLC, with operator Deep Rock Exploration, have discovered a new Morrow Sand fluvial structure with oil deposits at the Lyndell #1 well. Located in approximately C S2 SW in section 14-T14S-R39W, the remote wildcat well has been swab tested at a rate of 17 barrels oil per hour, no water. Swab test was performed on the well for four hours, whereby fluid level was maintained at a depth of 3200 ft. Perforations were shot in the upper Morrow Sand from 5070 to 5072 ft. and a lower Morrow Sand from 5115 to 5117 ft.

The Lyndell #1 well had two drill stem tests taken in the Morrow. The first test had slight show of gas in pipe as seen by Ross McGuckin, President of Deep Rock. The second test recovered oil cut drilling filtrate. There were no shows in the cutting samples, no odor or fluorescence. However, both drill stem tests exhibited good pressures, according to Curtis E. Covey, well site geologist. Based on these good pressures and the slight shows of oil and gas, and discussions with Hughes Petro, McGuckin decided to set pipe for production. Jerry Roberts, of Guardian Products, Inc., was credited with putting together a very successful chemical treatment program for McGuckin that was used at the well.

The new unnamed discovery was drilled about 3/8-mile northwest of the Iris 24-14 that was drilled and plugged at 5390 ft. by Union Pacific Resources in 1990. A core was taken in the Morrow from 4960 to 5110 ft. (details not available), and an unsuccessful drill stem test was attempted from 5073 to 5128 ft. The Lyndell #1 well ran structurally higher to the Iris well. The new unnamed oil field is situated 7 miles southeast of other Morrow wells in the Sharon Springs Field in sections 16 and 17-T13S-R39W. The Sharon Springs pool has two producers that together have made over 30,000 barrels of oil from depths between 4610 to 4660 ft. since the field was established in 1977.
