service included a tour of duty in the South
Pacific.
Returning to Wichita, he enrolled at Wichita
University and received a degree in Geol-
ogy in 1951. In 1953 he married Donna
Dick and to this union four sons were born:
Marc, now a Dietitian in Miami, OK; Kent,
a contractor in Fort Collins, CO; Ward, a
Realtor in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. and Evan, a
Landman in Hays, KS.
Throughout his professional career Robert
worked as an Independent Geologist, work-
ing with subsurface maps leasing land and
turning prospects in central Kansas, particu-
larly in Stafford and Pawnee Counties.
He was a member of the Kansas Geological
Society and was an active member of the
Riverside Christian Church. Professionally,
Robert had many friends in the industry.
His recreational interests included golf,
camping and fishing.
His wife says he would still be a geologist if
he had it to do all over again. He choose
geology because of his love for science.
A memorial has been established with the
American Heart Association and funds have
been donated to establish a memorial with
the Kansas Geological Foundation.

, the profession and industry in
the Wichita area lost a long time member.
Robert was born in Peabody, Kansas on
April 24, 1925. His father was involved
with a dry goods store there. His twin sis-
ter, Elaine Bruce, currently resides in Wich-
ita.
After the family moved from Peabody to
Ponca City, Oklahoma, and following a pe-
riod in Dallas, TX, they settled in Wichita.
Robert was educated at Irving elementary
school and Horace Mann middle school.
He attended Wichita North High School,
but was drafted between his Junior and Sen-
ior years and later received his diploma in
the Navy.
He served from July of 1943 until March
1946 in the Navy where he attained the
