the library. However.... if you belong to the Walters
Digital Library, you can access data 24-7!!

Happy Holidays,
Rebecca Radford
FROM THE MANAGER'S DESK
Dear Members,

We have reached a milestone at the Kansas Geo-
logical Society and the Kansas Geological Founda-
tion.
The Walters Digital Library is now up and
running! It has taken many hours of work and much
cooperation from several individuals to get us to this
crossroads but we have arrived and we are now mov-
ing forward (some of us thought we were standing
still there for awhile.)
We set up a booth at the AAPG Mid-Continent
meeting in Tulsa in October and got to show off the
product. People were amazed as they sat down and
were able to access our data so quickly and precisely.
Some of those other data people, such as IHS, were
in awe!
Now it is time for us to concentrate on getting
funds to keep the scanning project moving along.
We have scanned up into 19 S and we are ready to
take on the "arch" but funds are a little low. We
need your help.... whatever you can offer in the way
of funding. Many members have given to this pro-
ject and made it possible to get to this point, but
many have not given anything to it. If you would
please look at page 26, look really hard at the water
pouring down into the library from a second floor
leak, and consider how disastrous it would be to lose
our data! What can I say?
GIVE NOW AND
GIVE AS BIG AS POSSIBLE! (and remember,
you can take a tax deduction for giving to this
project)
Other news, the shooting tournament was a suc-
cess with 37 people entering. Yours truly even got a
quick shooting lesson from Roger Martin and I actu-
ally hit the target on my first try! See some photos
on page 16. Thanks to Larry Richardson, Kent
Crisler, Rick Saenger and Verne Dow for putting on
such a fun event.
The nominating committee came up with some
great candidates for you to choose from again this
year. Please look at their bios and be ready to cast
your ballot. Ballots will be mailed out November
3rd so watch for it in your mail. I would like to take
this opportunity to thank all of those who accepted
the run for office. Good luck to all of you.
Our holiday schedule is as follows: the library
will be closed for Thanksgiving (Thursday & Fri-
day) as well as Dec. 25 & 26 and Jan. 1. If you
have an emergency situation and need data you can
call my cell # 316-371-6855 as I live fairly close to
