WHY ARCHIVE ??? THIS IS WHY !!!
On Wednesday, October 8th approximately 3:30 in the afternoon, a toilet on the 2nd floor
overflowed. The water came rushing in over some of our booths and file cabinets. Tim Pierce and
Larry Friend moved file cabinets out of the way of the leaking water. (Thanks guys!) Wes Hansen &
Tyler Sanders found the problem on the second floor and got the water shut off. (Thanks guys!)
Later that night, Wichita received over 4" of rain and when I walked into the library on
Thursday morning, ceiling tiles over the file cabinets housing 1 South through 8 South had fallen in,
soaking the file cabinets in water and ceiling tile grit. The mess was just that, a mess! It could have
been worse but it was a task to get it cleaned up. (Thanks Bob O'Dell and Bob Stolzle for moving
file cabinets that morning and thanks to Ted Jochems & Larry Friend for moving them back!)
If any of you have wondered about the worth of archiving our data, this should blow away
any excuses for questioning the wisdom of spending money to save it. I would like to take this op-
portunity to ask anyone & everyone who has not given to the Digital Archiving Project to do so now!
We need to get our data scanned and preserved NOW! Let's not wait for another disaster! I am pe r-
sonally giving $100.00 to the project and challenge every member to give a minimum of $100.00.
Oil & Gas Overrides have been paying well this year
& you might not have made that well in the first place without using our data!
