Understanding the Value of Pore Geometry:
Workshop Instructor: J. B. (Jack) Thomas
Objectives to Understand:
Relationship between pore geometry and measured porosities;
Methodologies for direct and indirect determination of pore geometry;
Formation damage as a change in pore geometry;
Examples of producing formations with varying pore geometries;
Capillary pressure or porosity permeability determinations of R35.
Who Should Attend: Geologists, engineers and geophysicists involved in exploration and develop-
ment opportunities.

Discussion:
This concepts and examples in this workshop are useful in exploration and development opportuni-
ties where scattered amounts of core and cuttings data are available. The complex interactions on
formation composition, diagenesis, and fluid movement are explained during the course. Examples
are provided to explain how pore geometries are determined and what their impact can be on opti-
mizing gas and oil production. Included is a discussion of the potential for "formation damage" of
reservoirs.
