(8) R. P Nixon Operations Has Discovery
(IOGsi Weekly News 04/05/04)
-A new oil field
has been established by independent producer R.
P. Nixon Operations, Inc. of Hays, Kansas. The
firm's Honas Unit #1, spotted in approximately C
E/2 W/2 in section 8-T14s-R21W, is producing an
undisclosed amount of oil from 19 ft. of open hole
in the Arbuckle formation. Shields Drilling tools
bottomed the well at a total depth of 4013 ft.
Drill site, which was based on 3-D seismic data
and geology, is located 3/4 mile northeast of
Madden 'C' 31 "show hole" in northeast-quarter of
section 18 that produced 4504 barrels of oil from
Cherokee Sand in early 1970's. The well had no
shows in the Arbuckle. Another "show hole" lo-
cated 1/4-mile to the northwest in section 8,
Nancy #1, produced only 2.5 barrels of oil per day
from Lansing-Kansas City, Marmaton and Chero-
kee perfs in 1991, but also had no shows in the
Arbuckle. Closest known Arbuckle production
from Nixon's latest oil strike lies over 1-1/2 miles
away. The new field is situated 9-1/2 miles south
and 2-1/2 miles of Ogallah, Kansas. It has not re-
ceived a name to date.
(9) Palomino Petroleum Completes Wildcat
Discovery (IOGsi Weekly News 04/05/04)
-
Palomino Petroleum, Inc., Newton (KS), has com-
pleted a Cherokee Sand oil producer in Ness
County, utilizing 3-D seismic data as a basis for
the drill. The Hopper #1, located in approximately
W/2 NW in section 11-T18s-R24W, is on pump
making an undisclosed amount of oil about 3
miles north and 1-3/4 miles west of Ness City,
Kansas. The well was drilled to a rotary total
depth of 4420 ft. by Pickrell Drilling. Palomino
has offset the new find with an offsetting well,
Melody #1, approximately C S/2 SW in section 2.
The confirmation test was bottomed at 4475 ft.
and currently awaits completion. The wells are a
play off recent Cherokee Sand deposits discovered
on Palomino's Schuler lease, located 3/4-mile to
the southwest, that established the Swell Northeast
Field in the northwest-quarter of section 10 last
year. Operator has completed two oil wells on the
Lawrence Schuler lease and is preparing to com-
plete another well on the Jerry Schuler lease. No
details have been released.
